- Mary Lou Terhark, 75, of Belmond, died on Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at the Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.
Funeral services were held on Friday, June 10, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Belmond, with Pastor Lowell Halvorson officiating. Interment was in the Belmond Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Dennis Weide, Leroy Goeman, Doug Mennenga, Todd Smith, Harlan Tulp and George Anderson.
Mary Lou, the daughter of John and Mabel Johnson Finch, was born on February 6, 1930 at Nevada. She was baptized at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Kelley and attended the Milford Consolidated School until 1943 when the family moved to Alden. In 1944 the family moved to Crystal Lake where she attended school until her junior year.
On June 6, 1949, she married Herman Terhark at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. The couple made their home in Belmond. Herman died in 1984.
Mary Lou spent many hours taking care of the elderly in their homes. She enjoyed gardening, camping and fishing. Mary Lou was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant sister, Eva Jean Finch; and sister-in-law, Marybel Finch.
Mary Lou is survived by her daughter, Phyllis (Larry) Robbins of Goodell; sons, Johnny (Marilyn) Terhark of Independence and Darrel Terhark of North Carolina; grandchildren, Duncan (Jodi) Terhark, Boni (Joe) Logue, Lacy Terhark and Sherie Terhark; sister, Ann Finch of Titonka; brothers, Melvin (Della) Finch of Litchfield, Minnesota and Johnny Finch, Jr. of Britt; aunt, Florence Finch of Kelly; and special friend, Fred Weide of Meservey.
