Became permanently disabled in a traffic accident with a Rockford police officer. Suffered a head injury.

December 24, 1998:
Rockford Register Star: $1 million awarded in police-car crash. Joyce Fisher, the victim's wife, said he suffers permanent brain damage from the accident. The family holds no bitter feelings toward the police officer, she said, although they are pleased with the jury verdict. 'It doesn't bring back Louis' health," she said, "But we can live with the jury's decision." The police officer tried to hit the brakes to avoid the accident, but his foot got caught under the brake pedal.

Lou had many other medical problems in the years after 1965.
