Alice L. DeVries, 89, of Freeport died Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at Manor Court of Freeport.
She was born Aug. 18, 1920, in Ridott, a daughter of Fred and Alta (Chapman) TerHark. Alice married Forbes DeVries on March 22, 1960. He died Jan. 28, 2001.

Mrs. DeVries was employed by Micro Switch in the accounting department as a secretary.

A member of Park Hills Evangelical Free Church, Freeport, she was active in Women's Ministries at Park Hills. She also did volunteer work at Freeport Memorial Hospital and enjoyed knitting baby items for newborns for many years.

Mrs. DeVries is survived by her daughter, Miriam (Thomas) Vesely of Brainerd, Minn.; her brother, Maurice TerHark of Rockford; seven grandchildren, Wendell (Rose) DeVries, Delbert (Lisa) DeVries, Sheldon (Jill) DeVries, Eric DeVries, Matthew (Kathryn) Vesely, Andrew Vesely and Michael (Jennifer) Vesely.

Also surviving are 10 great-grandchildren; her brother-in-law, Leo Tielkemeier of Freeport; and her sister-in-law, Elaine TerHark.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her sister and four brothers.

The funeral for Mrs. DeVries will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 17, at Park Hills Evangelical Free Church, Freeport. The Rev. Mark Balmer, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Saturday until time of service at the church.

A memorial fund has been established for Park Hills Evangelical Free Church.
